TRIPOLI (Afrobasket 2009) – The Grand Park (Al Hadika’al Kubra) in Tripoli, Libya is ready and wearing a good look as the city prepares to host yet another stage in the series of events lined up to the 25th African Men’s Championship. The Park is the venue for Thursday night musical concert scheduled as part of the event launch for the competition holding in Tripoli and Benghazi from August 5th to 15th.
A visit to the venue on Wednesday confirmed that tents and the performing platform for the musicians have been constructed in readiness for the concert starting at 21.00hours local time. By Tuesday and Wednesday morning many guests and journalists from across the continent of Africa had arrived in Tripoli ahead of the event.
The Thursday event will start off with a gala dinner set for the Magna Ballroom in Al Waddan Intercontinental Hotel Tripoli. The event is billed to begin at 20.00. Programmes billed for the gala night include the competition logo presentation and the unveiling of the Ambassadors for Afrobasket 2009. A documentary tagged the Great Moments of African Basketball will also be shown to the guests. The events are being packaged by Afrisat, the FIBA Africa Media/Marketing partners on behalf of the continental body.
Popular Algerian musician Cheb Khaled and Magic System of Cote d’Ivoire will entertain guests alongside other artistes from Libya. Both musicians who were in Tripoli a fortnight ago for the media launch of the Libya 2009 were billed to jet into Tripoli last night.
