CHIETI (FIBA Europe Championship for Women) - Latvia beat France 66-62 on Thursday to reach the semi-finals of the EuroBasket Women for the first time. The victory also avenged a 15-point defeat to the French at the EuroBasket two years ago that prevented the Latvians from advancing to the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women, and ensured that the Baltic side will play at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament next year unless they win gold at the EuroBasket in Italy. Gold would put the Latvians straight into the Olympics.
