SEOUL (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament) - Korea won’t have the most celebrated of the 12 teams at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, yet they better not be overlooked.
As they showed four years ago in Athens, the perimeter-oriented side can be extremely awkward opponents.
A heavily-favored Slovenia only beat Korea, 76-88, and then Canada edged the Asian team, 79-77.
Most of the shots the Koreans put up from behind the arc seemed to go in. They were 11 of 21 for a scalding 52.4% against Slovenia and then against Canada, the Koreans hit 13 of 25 (52%).
Twenty-four players have been included in the country's preliminary squad ahead of this year's OQT in Caracas, Venezuela, and two - Young-sam Jung and Joo-sung Kim - were in that team that played in Athens in 2008.
Jung and Kim led that side in scoring at 15.5 points apiece.
The bronze-medal winners of 2011 FIBA Asia Championship do not have the leading scorer of last year's team, 36-year-old Taejong Moon.
The 2.21m center Seung Jin Ha, a 26-year-old, is also missing.
However, 28-year-old Sungmin Cho, who drilled 19 of 44 attempts from behind the arc and averaged 11.1 points per game in Wuhan, has been named.
Korea will play in Group C against the Dominican Republic and Russia in Caracas, where three of the 12 teams will claim spots at the London Games.
