SEOUL (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament) – Sekeun Oh used an impressive campaign at last year's FIBA Asia Championship in China as a platform for an excellent season in Korea's KBL.

The 2.01m power forward, who averaged 9.1 points and seven rebounds in helping fire the Koreans to the bronze medal in Wuhan, returned home and excelled.

He led Anyang KGC to a 4-2 upset of Dongb Promy in the finals.

Dongb had finished first during the regular season.

Oh averaged 17.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and became the first rookie to scoop MVP honors.

The award injected some confidence into the player ahead of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Caracas, Venezuela, and next season in the KBL.

“Now that I’ve been named MVP, I plan to perform like one,” Oh said.

“I think I still have more to offer and I will show fans a better performance next year.”

For now, Oh’s attention is on the Korea national team.

The Asian squad will take on the Dominican Republic and Russia in Group C with a potential Quarter-Final against Angola, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) or New Zealand.

Veteran Donggeun Yang, a 30-year-old guard, is expected to serve as the Korea captain with Joosung Kim choosing to rest his injured knee.

The 32-year-old Kim had 14 points and nine rebounds in the team’s bronze-medal triumph over the Philippines last year in Wuhan and will be sorely missed.

Korea are training on home soil right now but will travel to Puerto Rico for a second training camp that runs from 19-29 June.

They played at the 2008 FIBA OQT in Athens but suffered heartbreak in their second game of the tournament when they fell in a nail-biter to Canada and did not advance from the initial group stage.

Korea squad for FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT): Donggeun Yang, Chanhee Park, Taesool Kim, Sunhyung Kim, Hoyoung Yoon, Heejong Yang, Seungjun Lee, Dongwook Kim, Jinsoo Choi, Jongkyu Kim, Jonghyun Lee and Sekeun Oh.
