The Group Phase features some of the tournament’s most exciting games. These five stand out as must-watch matchups.

MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2025 Group Phase will run from June 28 to July 2, with all 20 games taking place at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos in Santiago, Chile. During this stage, teams will battle for one of eight coveted spots in the Quarter-Finals, leading into the Semi-Finals and Final from July 4 to 6. Here are five games you absolutely need to catch during the opening stage of the competition:

    ARG vs BRA

    Date: June 28 – Local Time: 02:10 p. m. (GMT-4)

The South American classic reignites as Argentina takes on Brazil in a highly anticipated Women’s AmeriCup Group A clash. Brazil holds a commanding 25-6 edge in recent matchups, but Argentina flipped the script at the 2024 South American Women’s Championship, beating Brazil twice—once in the Group Phase and again in the Final to claim the title. Now, Brazil, the reigning AmeriCup champions, are hungry for revenge. But Argentina will aim to make history by defeating their long-time rivals for a third consecutive time—something they’ve never done before. Expect passion, pride, and high-level play in this can't-miss showdown.

    MEX vs CHI

    Date: June 29 – Local Time: 05:40 p. m. (GMT-4)

This Group B matchup could prove pivotal in determining who advances to the AmeriCup Quarterfinals. While it's just the second game of the group stage, it carries the weight of a playoff. Mexico, ranked No. 9 in the FIBA Women’s World Ranking (presented by Nike), enters with greater depth and recent success. But Chile, ranked No. 14 and playing on home soil, is eager to spark an upset. The Chileans lead the head-to-head 3-1, though their last clash was all the way back at the 2007 Women’s AmeriCup—a lot has changed since then.

    BRA vs CAN

    Date: June 30 – Local Time: 02:10 p. m. (GMT-4)

Group A delivers another heavyweight battle as Brazil and Canada face off in a game likely to determine the top seed. Brazil leads the all-time series 11-9 and edged Canada in their last meeting at the 2021 AmeriCup, securing the bronze medal. However, Canada appears to be in stronger form, having qualified for the last four Olympic Games. Brazil, meanwhile, missed the last two. In the latest FIBA rankings, Canada sits at No. 7, while Brazil is No. 10. This one promises top-tier basketball between two global contenders.

    PUR vs USA

    Date: June 30 – Local Time: 08:10 p. m. (GMT-4)

Later that day, Group B brings another marquee matchup: Puerto Rico vs. Team USA. While the United States has yet to reveal its final roster, they remain favorites thanks to unmatched depth and talent. The reigning Olympic and World champions have dominated this matchup, winning the last five meetings by double digits. Still, Puerto Rico is one of the region’s fastest-rising programs, currently ranked No. 12 in the world. If there’s ever a chance for them to challenge the U.S., it might be now—especially if Team USA fields a younger, less experienced squad.

    MEX vs PUR

    Date: July 1 – Local Time: 05:40 p. m. (GMT-4)

A classic Centrobasket rivalry takes the Women’s AmeriCup stage as Mexico faces Puerto Rico in a crucial Group B battle. Puerto Rico has dominated recent encounters, winning the last five matchups. But with Quarterfinal qualification potentially on the line, Mexico will be desperate to flip the script and take down their top regional rival.
