    The New Year will be a relatively busy one for basketball, officials have said.

    Kenya Basketball Federation competitions secretary, Steve Nyakina, said this on Wednesday as he released the 2007 calendar of events.

    He said that national women champions, Telkom would carry the country’s flag in the Africa women club championships slated for Nairobi latter this year.

    The tournament, the first ever to be staged in the country, has been slated for November 26; a day after the curtain comes down on the national league.

    At the same time, Nyakina said Fiba Africa has released new dates for the Nations Cup that was pushed forward from November.

    "Fiba Africa have now given us new dates for the tournament." said Nyakina adding that the week long show will now be staged from February 3.

    The championships that will bring together Zone Five nations like Egypt, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Kenya will be used pick the All Africa Games representatives.

    "With the dates now fixed, our national teams must start training as soon as possible. We will take the sessions very seriously since there is no time," he said.

    Nyakina also said that the regional club show would be in Bujumbura, Burundi in April.

    Also on the menu are the national elections to be held later in the year.

    The New Year will start off with the Fiba coaches’ clinics in Nairobi.
