FIBA Africa has nominated a Kenyan referee to officiate at the 2006 World Championship for Women in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Vitalis Gode got the nod from the continental body and will officiate during the championships slated for September in the South American city.

While making the revelation on Wednesday, Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairman, Agina Wesonga, said the official, who is also KBF secretary, has made the country proud. Africa will be represented in the global show by African champions Nigeria and runners-up Senegal.

The draw done last month saw Nigeria placed in pool "C" alongside powerhouse and reigning champions USA, Russia and China. Senegal is grouped in pool "B" with Australia, Lithuania and Canada.

The rest of the pools are: "A" — Brazil, Spain, South Korea and Argentina; "D" — Czech Republic, France, Cuba and Taiwan.
