    AUCKLAND (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Australia has turned on its trademark defence to shut Kazakhstan out of their second round game at ASB Stadium and record a 33-point victory at the FIBA U19 World Championship in New Zealand.

    Australia led 22-9 at quarter time, 43-22 at half time, 70-40 at the last break and 87-54 at full time. Australian coach Marty Clarke rotated his full bench from the first quarter onwards, and reserve guard Jason Cadee led the scoring with 17 points, along with star forward Brock Motum.

    Reserve big men Matthew Hodson (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Shane Harris-Tunks (11 points) also reached double figures.

    For Kazakhstan, the dependable Alexandr Tyutyunik performed well with 20 points, and he was joined in double figures by big men Omirzak Akhmet (11 points, 7 rebounds) and Alexandr Zhigulin (10 points, 7 rebounds).

    Kazakhstan meet Canada and Spain in their remaining games in Group F, and must win them both to assure an unlikely passage through to the quarter finals.

    Australia remains undefeated, and plays Argentina tomorrow at 1:30pm at the North Shore Events Centre, before facing Croatia on Wednesday, a match that will likely decide fiorst place in Group F.
