Former Israel coach Muli Katzurin is to coach Czech team Nymbruk for the next two years, the club said yesterday.
Katzurin has not coached since September 2004 when his contract with Israel was not renewed after he failed to gain automatic qualification with the side for the European Championship.
Despite the failure with the national team, Katzurin received several offers from club sides in Israel and Europe, but opted to stay away from the sidelines.
Katzurin was recently appointed chairman of the Basketball Referees Association, but made it clear to Israel Basketball Association chairman Yermi Olmert that he would only take the job until the end of the current season as he wished to return to coaching.
Nymbruk will be Katzurin's second European team after having coached two spells with Polish outfit Wroclaw, leading the club to the 1999/00 domestic championship and narrowly missing out on a place in the second stage of the Euroleague in the 2003/4 season.
Katzurin, 51, coached the Israeli national side for seven years, spent two years with Maccabi Tel Aviv and twice won the State Cup with Galil Elyon. He also had spells with Maccabi Ramat Gan, Hapoel Holon, Bnei Herzliya and Maccabi Darom.
Nymbruk won the Czech championship last year for the third straight season and will play in the Europe Cup next next season. Nymbruk ousted Nahariya in the last 16 of the competition last season.
