Joy for first newly-qualified FIBA licensed agents of 2019

The latest tranche of applicants have been revelling in becoming FIBA licensed agents after making the grade with flying colors on Tuesday at FIBA's headquarters in Mies, Switzerland.

MIES (Switzerland) - The latest tranche of applicants have been revelling in becoming FIBA licensed agents after making the grade with flying colors on Tuesday at FIBA's headquarters in Mies, Switzerland.

A total of 28 candidates passed the first sitting of the current calendar year for the Agents’ Test, with the usual excitement from those involved who have moved towards a potential new career.

These included American, Daniel A. Skinner who enthused: "When you are watching a lot of athletes (and I played basketball as well) and you see the kind of struggles that people have in terms of managing their finances and negotiating contracts, it is something that you want to assist with.

"I started playing when I was just five years old and went to a pretty good high school in the State of New York which led me to go to College and I met a lot of people who were able to go and play overseas. I have been able to ask them what the things are that they disagree with. I feel I will also be able to relate to athletes.

"I hope to be able to help people from Europe as well as America and also women as well as the men. I feel as though people aren’t paying attention to them. It is something I want to tap into. Recently Diana Taurasi sat out a whole year so she could play European basketball and that notoriety can help.

"It was really great to learn a lot about FIBA, as well as all experience the helpfulness of everyone that was here," Skinner added.

Janos Fabian (Hungary) and Daniel A. Skinner (USA)

Meanwhile, demonstrating the extensive spectrum of not only nationalities, but also ages of those taking the test, Janos Fabian of Hungary was thrilled to have opened an important door in his life.

He stated: "It really makes me happy to be at the Hall of Fame at the FIBA HQ as I am only 25 years old, so I am happy to get this license.

"We have got a lot of work (me and the other candidates) to help contribute to making the sport better. This is only the first step for me and the other people in this group of agents.

"I was a player in Hungary but I had to finish my active status because of my studies. I always wanted to still be involved with basketball and especially as an agent and I am hopeful that I can be one of the best. I want to help everyone who needs it and I have learned a lot doing the FIBA Agents Test,"  stressed Fabian.

Further sittings of the FIBA Agents’ Test will be conducted at FIBA's headquarters and regional offices during the remainder of 2019.
