NEW YORK (USA) - Michael Jordan was a player like no other.
In his long and successful NBA career, he captured six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, played in numerous All-Star Games and earned many MVP awards.
MJ was an international basketball superstar, too, winning Olympic gold medals at the 1984 Los Angles Games after his final season of college basketball at North Carolina and then with the Dream Team at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.
His Airness jumped into the limelight again this week when the Bulls jersey he wore in Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals was auctioned for a record $12,260,000.
The jersey was sold by Rob Gough via Joopiter, a digital marketplace and auction house curated by Pharrell Williams.
Jordan's Game 1 jersey from the same 1998 series sold for $10.1 million at Sotheby's in September 2022.
The 1998 NBA Finals were unforgettable, with the Bulls winning, 4-2. In Game 3, Jordan poured in 24 points and was eventually named MVP of the Finals for the sixth time.
MJ was the regular season MVP in the NBA five times, and was 10 times All-NBA First Team. The Defensive Player of the Year in 1998, Jordan was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team nine times.
His appearances with the USA Dream Team at the 1992 Olympics helped speed up the globalization of the game, winning fans everywhere and inspiring millions to pick up the game.
That USA team, arguably the greatest ever assembled, went undefeated in Barcelona and Jordan was its talisman.
