    Jordan - Jordan bidding for 2009 FIBA Asia Championship

    Jordan Basketball Association on Sunday submitted an official request to the Asian Basketball Association and the International Basketball Federation to host the 2009 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Championship. According to a statement issued by the Jordan Basketball Association today, officials of the two associations expressed admiration of the performance of the Jordanian basketball team in Japan and hailed efforts exerted by the Jordan Basketball Association to increase popularity of the game.

    Jordan Basketball Association on Sunday submitted an official request to the Asian Basketball Association and the International Basketball Federation to host the 2009 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Championship.

    According to a statement issued by the Jordan Basketball Association today, officials of the two associations expressed admiration of the performance of the Jordanian basketball team in Japan and hailed efforts exerted by the Jordan Basketball Association to increase popularity of the game.

    Jordan, the Philippines and South Korea are bidding for the next host of the championship.

    In the 2007 FIBA Asia Championship in Japan, Jordan took the fifth place, which is their highest finish ever in Asian Championships.

    The FIBA Asia Championship is a tournament which takes place every two years between teams of the continent. This is the Asian qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Championship and the Olympic basketball tournament
