AMMAN (Jordanian Premier League) - Applied Science University (ASU) warded off Al Riyadi Aramex’ serious threat and prevailed 77-73 in the fifth and decisive game of the Jordanian Premier League Finals on Monday.

This is the second title of the season for ASU as they triumphed in the Jordan Cup finals this past February, getting the better of Aramex on that occasion as well.

ASU also beat their foes in the WABA League qualifying game to stand as the Jordanian representative.

Aramex, undoubtedly the revelation of the season, with some sparkling wins including two in the Finals, began the game confidently, racing into a 21-16 lead to end the first quarter.

Sani Sakakini had nine of his 19 points in the period alone.

But an unsportsmanlike foul kept him out for the better part of the second quarter and ASU made the most of his absence, rallying back to get within 36-35.

ASU took charge of the proceedings in the third with Mousa Al Awadhi scoring 10 of his 19 total points in the period and Fredrick Oniga’s team looked to be pulling away.

But, as has been their wont throughout the season, Aramex played with vigour and turned a 12-point deficit into a five-point lead with less than two minutes to go.

ASU, at this point looking desperate, turned to their international star Wesam Al-Sous, who delivered in style, hitting back-to-back three-pointers.

Mohamad Hamarsheh then put the finishing touches on the win.

    Al-Sous finished with 14 points.

Malek Khashan’s game-high 20 points for Aramex went in vain.
