The Milton Keynes Lions have announced that veteran British Basketball League star Shawn Jamison will return for a fourth straight season with the club.

The league's best rebounder will once again be Lions' man in the middle, the 6ft 8ins centre and a former Harlem Globetrotter becoming the first non-national player signed by the Lions for the new season.

Jamison has signed a two-year contract to lead the Lions not only into the new season but also into their fantastic new state of the art arena in 2007.

The 36-year-old American and former All Star led the BBL in rebounds last season just as he did in 2003-2004, averaging 13 rebounds per game while also leading his team in scoring at an impressive 18 points an outing.

Lions' head coach Tom Hancock said: "He is a player I believe will be the heart in the middle for us this season, especially now with complementary players around him."

Owner Vince Macaulay added: "Shawn has become part of the furniture in Milton Keynes.

"He is a key contributor in our community through his work with the Radcliffe School and I know he has a burning ambition to bring silverware to Europe's fastest growing city.

"If you want the definition of a true professional he wears the Lions number six shirt, I wish more players would follow his lead."

Jamison joins Robert Youngblood, Tony Windless and Michael New who have already joined Lions this season.

l Lions trials are being held on Sunday (September 3) and on September 10 at the Milton Keynes College, Bletchley between noon and 3pm.

Those wishing to attend the trials will need to pre-register and they can do so by calling the Lions office on MK 512217 and leaving your details.

The season starts on October 1 with a home game against Worcester but before that coach Hancock is anxious to see what British talent is out there.

"I am already aware of several players who I have already invited to the trials but would extend an invitation out to all those others interested in joining us in Milton Keynes and having a shot," said Hancock.
