BERLIN (Germany) - Spain's young guard, Iyana Martin, has been named the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Rising Star after stepping up as floor general for Spain in an outstanding campaign.
Martin came into the competition as the ninth-youngest player across all rosters, but finished as one of the best ballers at the end of the tournament.
She also underlined her quality by finishing as Spain's top scorer with 17.5 points per game.
Martin signed off her debut edition with a stellar display in the Third-Place Game by pouring in 22 points and dishing out 9 assists as Spain took bronze with commanding victory against host nation, Germany.
Previously she had shined brightly in the Semi-Finals against USA, scoring 17 points. Despite the loss, she became the youngest player to score more than 16 points in a Women's World Cup Semi-Final.
In the Group Phase, she scored 20 points in back-to-back games against Japan and Mali - becoming the first player aged under 21 years old to have scored at least 20 points in back-to-back games at the Women's World Cup in the 21st century.
Throughout the competition, aside from her scoring, Martin also averaged 4.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
