    IWBF - Loting Gold Cup 2006

    AMSTERDAM (Wheelchair Basketball) - Some very nice groups were formed at the draw for the Gold Cup 2006 tournament which will be held in Amsterdam this summer. During the Grand Gold Cup Gala, the draw was

    AMSTERDAM (Wheelchair Basketball) - Some very nice groups were formed at the draw for the Gold Cup 2006 tournament which will be held in Amsterdam this summer. During the Grand Gold Cup Gala, the draw was spread over an evening full of entertainment.

    In some really great atmosphere, in hotel The Grand, more than 150 people were surprised by a wonderful dinner hosted by Toine van Peperstraten (NOS Studio Sport). During this wonderful evening the draw and auction were the highlights and all those present loved the final by Linda Wagemakers (famous Dutch musical star)...

    First there was the draw for the women's tournament. Erik de Winter (Secretary General NPC) and Hans Gootjes (Secretary General NBB) accomplished the following groups:

    Gold Cup 2006 Amsterdam Women's Preliminary round

    Group A: Japan, USA, Germany and The Netherlands.
    Group B: Australia, Canada, Mexico and France.

    Then the draw for the men's competition was settled by Dave Mac Calman (member of the FIBA council of basketball for persons with a disability) and René Martens (former dutch national team player):

    Gold Cup 2006 Amsterdam Men's Preliminary round

    Group A: Brazil, Israel, Canada, Japan, Italy and The Netherlands.
    Group B: USA, Australia, Great Britain, South Africa, Sweden and France.

    The opening of the tournament will be the match between Japan and The Netherlands (Men's competition) at Thursday, July the 6th (20:15 hrs.).

    Maureen Orchard, president of the IWBF, the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, said the evening was an enormous success. We would like to thank all sponsors and guests who made this all possible for us. A total amount of EUR 32.250 was collected for the Gold Cup 2006.
