    ITA - Rome and Siena will have new arenas in Italy’s 2014 bid effort

    ROME (2014 FIBA World Championship) – The cities of Rome and Siena will undergo heavy investments for new basketball arenas in their quest for hosting the 2014 FIBA World Championships in Italy.

    In Rome the construction works for the new arena “PalaTorvergata” are progressing fast. The new basketball arena, designed by the famous architect Calatrava, will be able to accommodate more then 15,000 people and it will be ready by the end of 2010.

    In Siena the Monte dei Paschi Siena Foundation has announced that the new world class sport complex "PalaMontepaschi" will be completed by the end of 2012. The new arena will become home to Siena's team Mens Sana Basket and it will be able to seat more than 11.000 people. The building will also host a basketball museum, restaurants, bar and merchandising areas.
