SIENA (Lega A) - Montepaschi Siena are on top of the Italian basketball world for a third straight year after sweeping Armani Jeans Milano 4-0 in the Lega A Finals.
The triumph completed a treble-winning campaign for Siena, with Benetton Treviso the only other side to win the Lega, the Italia Super Cup and the Coppa Italia in the same year.
An Ettore Messina coached Benetton team pulled off the feat in the 2002-03 campaign.
Simone Pianigiani's team delivered a first-quarter knockout punch in Game 4 in front of their own fans, going on a 19-2 run to take a 32-9 stranglehold on proceedings.
"I think this game has capped an extraordinary year and an unforgettable one in the history of our sport," Pianigiani said.
"I asked my players to play at a high level and to have a good start and they responded."
Montepaschi won 29 of their 30 games in Lega A this season and then prevailed in all 10 of their play-off games.
Terrell McIntyre, who averaged 11.4 points and five assists, was MVP of the Lega A Finals.
