ITA – Montepaschi make it a fabulous four in a row

MILAN (Lega A) - For the fourth year in a row, Montepaschi Siena have captured the Italian Lega A title.

For the second straight time, Mens Sana won the championship with a 4-0 sweep of Armani Jeans Milano in the play-off finals.

Simone Pianigiani's team rolled to a 93-69 Game 4 triumph over the weekend.

Leading just 47-44 at half-time, Montepaschi began to pull away in the fourth quarter and then cruised to another blowout win.

Veteran American guard Terrell McIntyre had 28 points, Central Africa star Romain Sato 16 and Lithuania international Ksistof Lavrinovic 15 in the victory.

Montepaschi had won Games 1 (100-80), 2 (81-59) and 3 (88-75) by big margins.

Ferdinando Minucci, the Montepashi club president, said: "Beyond what it may seem - it has been a difficult season and challenging in all respects.

"Winning is hard, but what is even more extraordinary is the repetition and continuity that we were able to give this concept.

"We have done it, we did something great."

Minucci revealed that the club will have a different look next season.

"I can say that a cycle is over," he said.

"We believe that this team needs to have a new perspective and some players have expressed their desire to live a different experience away from Siena.

"This is painful personally, emotionally and professionally.

"It is a group formed four years ago with general skepticism, but one that ultimately gave us extraordinary results.

"...now again we will start with a new three-year project.

"We will look for good players that are not yet established..."
