ITA - Lottomatica power past DKV

BADALONA (Euroleague) - Lottomatica Roma kept alive their hopes of progressing to the Top 16 of Euroleague following an 83-72 triumph over DKV Joventut in Group B.

Looking to improve their 4-7 record, Roma made a flying start to the game and had opened up a 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

DKV then hit back to take the second period 20-17, but the visitors still held a 42-36 advantage at half-time before maintaining their edge in the final two periods to claim the spoils.

David Hawkins led all scorers with 25 points for Lottomatica while Mire Chatman added 18 and six rebounds for the victors.

Charles Gaines poured in 19 points for beaten DKV, who have already secured their place in the next round.

In Group B’s other game, Maccabi Elite improved their record to 7-5 with a 91-83 win over Cibona.

With the scores tied at 66-66 at the end of the third quarter, Tal Burstein’s three-pointer at the start of the final period helped swing the game in Maccabi’s favour.

Nikola Bujcic totalled 29 points and seven rebounds for the winners with Burstein adding 17 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Wintherthur FC Barcelona slipped to their fourth defeat in Group C with an 82-69 loss at Fenerbahce.

Despite holding a 36-32 advantage at half-time, Winterthur lost their way in the fourth quarter as the Turkish hosts took their record to 5-7 in the competition.

Francisco Vazquez helped Fenerbahce’s cause with 17 points and five rebounds, and head coach Aydin Ors is now hoping his side can follow Winterthur into the next round.

"It's really feels good to keep winning and trying to make our goal of reaching Top 16," said Ors.

"I'm really honoured to see my team beating one of the traditional teams of Euroleague with the way they played, especially defensively in the second half. We
didn't give up the fight even when we were 11 points behind them."

Also in Group C, Aris TT Bank fought back from a half-time deficit to beat Benetton Treviso 65-60.

Terrel Castle was the hero for Aris with 22 points and eight rebounds.

In Group A, 27 points from Lazaros Papadopoulos helped Dynamo Moscow snatch a 70-69 victory over Le Mans, who saw their dreams of qualification to the Top 16 ended with the defeat.

And Adam Wojcik scored a season-high 22 points as Prokom Trefl enjoyed a 72-61 success over RheinEnergie Cologne.

The win moves Prokom up to fifth in Group A with a 5-7 record, while RheinEnergie remain at the foot of the standings after their 10th defeat in 12 games.
