ROME (Euroleague/Lega A) - Jasmin Repesa has resigned as coach of Lottomatica Roma.
Repesa, who is also the national team boss of Croatia, decided to leave the post after the club lost at Carife Ferrara on Sunday to fall to eighth in Lega A.
"I am doing this because I love this team and this city," Repesa said.
"I haven't been able to give the right change to the situation and right now, only like this you can come out of the moving sand.”
Roma are struggling in Italy but in the Euroleague they are first in Group C with five wins and just one defeat.
They play at DKV Joventut on Thursday.
Lottomatica Roma said in a statement: "Despite the club executives being aware that they are losing one of the best coaches in Europe, his resignation has been accepted."
Club president Claudio Toti said: "I thank the coach for the great sense of responsibility shown and I thank him for having allowed us to experience exciting moments, taking the team to confirm themselves in Europe and play a Scudetto final after 25 years."
Repesa's second in command, Nando Gentile, has been promoted to guide the team on an interim basis.
