ROME (Euroleague/Lega A) – Lottomatica Roma coach Matteo Boniciolli steered the club into the Top 16 of the Euroleague but that wasn’t good enough by his or the club’s lofty standards because the veteran has left the club by mutual consent.

The outfit is struggling in the Lega A with six wins and eight defeats.

The last setback, an 87-79 loss to his former club Canadian Solar Bologna at the weekend, left the Romans 12th in Italy’s top flight.

"It has been a decision taken mutually for the good of the team,” Boniciolli said.

“Last year it went well but this season, it has gone less so but I remain a great fan of Virtus."

A replacement for Boniciolli has yet to be named.

Roma will begin Top 16 play in the Euroleague on January 20 at home to Union Olimpija.
