ST THOMAS (FIBA) - The FIBA Organizer, a software package for sports administration developed by FIBA for the FIBA family, continues its journey around the world as it reached the Caribbeans with an instructional workshop on 26 – 28 October 2006 in St. Thomas on the US Virgin Islands.
In addition to Wolfram Klug, FIBA, Javier Otero from FIBA Americas, and Sam Fewster from SportingPulse there were 11 participants from 9 National Federations in attendance.
The software, which is powered by SportingPulse, aims to fully computerize all facets of sports administration such as competition management (schedules, results, and standings) and membership database (clubs, players, coaches, and referees).
FIBA Organizer has been specifically tailored to allow for integration with the Internet.
This will enable the national federations to easily upload schedules, results, statistical information and standings to the Internet, which then could be displayed and viewed by the members of the sporting community.
This would also allow national federations to gain web presence without major investment.
Participants in attendance:
Caroline Williams, USA Basketball
Mario Davis, National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago.
Lenroy Browne , Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Basketball Association
Elneth Toussaint, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Association
David Edole, Virgin Islands Basketball Federation
Rana M. Pratt Virgin Islands Basketball Federation
Pablo Delgado, Federación de Baloncesto de Puerto Rico
Alexander Lecleres, Federación de Baloncesto de Puerto Rico
Lawrence Hepburn, Bahamas Basketball Federation
Victor Sierra, Federación Dominicana de Baloncesto
Collin Anglin, Cayman Islands Basketball Association
The workshop was a full success with all participating national federations expressing interest in the software and half of them wanting to start immediately with implementation.
Here are some selected comments from participants:
"The software is very easy to use and it assures efficiency in records management. St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation applauds the effort of FIBA and will endeavour to utilize this software for the purpose for which it was created, i.e the development of Basketball."
Elneth Toussaint
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Association
"The Workshop was a tremendous success and I will recommend that my federation install this project onto our website for all our affiliates to have access to. Presently I am serving as the secretary to our Federation and I will make recommendation that we hire a person do handle this area of expertise, for this is most critical at this juncture of our development"
