ST CROIX (Olympic Solidarity Technical course for coaches) – The technical course for coaches took place at the Ronald Charles Arena in St Croix between 7th and 11th April 2011.

FIBA coaching instructor William Colon was appointed to run the clinic which brought together 29 coaches from the Virgin Islands.

Prior to this clinic, Mr Colon had conducted Olympic Solidarity clinics in Belize in 2009 as well as the one held in Barbados in 2010.

The course in the Virgin Islands focused mainly on how to establish a training plan, introducing the different coaching styles, the development of a coaching philosophy, as well as individual and collective game and a number of various other topics.

The theory-based and practical seminars incorporated into the schedule combined to make up six four-hour sessions over the course of the clinic.

High School players between 15 and 18 years of age took part in practical sessions and assisted Mr Colon to conduct live demonstrations.

Mr Colon highlighted the fact that participants had a good level and knowledge of coaching and also pointed out that coaches met in order to launch a coaches’ association in Virgin Islands.
