    ISR - Mizrahi honoured for services rendered to basketball

    TEL AVIV (Euroleague/Israeli Super League) - Maccabi Electa Tel Aviv basketball club president Shimon Mizrahi on Wednesday received the prestigious Israel Prize in the field of sports for 2011 from Israeli Minister of Education Gideo Sa'ar.

    Mizrahi, a lawyer by trade, has served as the club's chairman on a voluntary basis since 1969 and helped them to dominate the Israeli League, at one point winning 23 consecutive titles (1970-1992).

    The committee responsible for selecting the prize winner, praised Mizrahi for creating new styles of management in the field of sport.

    Over the course of his career in basketball management, he has served as Acting Chairman of the Israel Basketball Association and been a member of the Israel Olympic Committee, the Judicial Commission of FIBA, the European Club Competition Commission and been on the Euroleague Board and its Euroleague Judicial Commission.
