Frustration with a lack of game time with his Turkish club has forced New Zealand basketball captain Pero Cameron to move on to Iran.

Cameron joined Turkish club Banvitspor last season when former Tall Blacks coach Tab Baldwin was in charge. He returned even after Baldwin was not re-signed this season. However, obviously out of favour with the new coach and frustrated by his lack of court time, he has cut ties with Banvitspor and signed with the Mehram club, based in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

"I just really wanted to play," Cameron said yesterday.

"I was getting limited playing time at Banvit. The people were great, the living was great, but it was hard to watch from the sidelines."

Iran is one of the emerging nations in the International Basketball Federation's Asia zone. It won the bronze medal at last year's Asian Games, beating out more established contenders such as Japan and Korea.

Mehram is currently contesting the 18th Dubai international basketball tournament.

It has won its first three games, 82-78 over Blue Star of Lebanon, 85-78 over Al Jala of Syria, and 79-71 over Academy Navy of Egypt. –NZPA
