    New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) The national capital will soon get an international standard indoor basketball stadium with all state of the art facilities at the Ajmal Khan Park in West Delhi.

    The 2000-seater Master Prithvinath Indoor Basketball Stadium will be equipped with all cutting edge technologies, including timber flooring and defused lighting arrangements, besides being centrally air-conditioned.

    Former President of Delhi Basketball Association (DBA) and Member of Parliament Vijay Kumar Malhotra today laid the foundation stone for the stadium which will cost Rs 6 crore and come up within 10 months from now.

    "This stadium will certainly play a very important role to promote the game in India. It will be a fantastic venue for organising international matches as well," Bob Elphinstone, President of International Basketball Federation (FIBA), said on the occasion.

    The ceremony coincides with the four-day 'Basketball Without Borders Asia' camp for under-19 players, a first ever initiative of USA's National Basketball Association (NBA) in India, that started here today.

    Besides others, legendary NBA player Dominique Wilkins and Federation of International Basketball Association Secretary General Patrick Bauman were also present on the ocassion.

    "The indoor stadium, coming up just before the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held here, will certainly give huge boost to our preparation for the same," said Harish Sharma, Secretary General of Basketball Federation of India.
