MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA Americas Regional Office announced that the FIBA U16 AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers will be played from December 9-13 at Coliseo Nacional de Ingenieros in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The competition was previously known as the FIBA U15 Centrobasket Championship.
The tournament will follow FIBA’s new youth competition system in the Americas, introduced this year with the goal of strengthening the development of youth categories across the region.
Under the new format, the tournament will award one direct spot in the FIBA U16 AmeriCup 2027 and could grant a second berth. This will depend on the selection of the host country for the continental tournament, which will be announced at a later date.
Participation will be open to all National Federations belonging to the Central America and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) sub-zone. Countries must complete the corresponding registration process to secure their participation in the competition.
The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico will not participate in the qualifier, as they earned direct qualification to the FIBA U16 AmeriCup 2027 after finishing in the top two among Central America and Caribbean teams in the historical U16 standings, which were in effect as of January 1, 2026. These historical standings are used as a reference for the implementation of the new youth competition system in the Americas.
