RADES (Tunisia) - Guinea went 16-for-40, marching the continent’s 3-point record set by Cameroon, ironically against Guinea in 2017, and repeated recently in 2023 against the DRC.
Guards Shanon Evans (5-for-10) and Souleymane Boum Jr (4-for-9) led the charge for Guinea who improved to 6-3 in the Group E. Ousmane Drame (3-for-5) and Mamadi Diakite (3-of-7) were also lethal from behind the arc.
“The way you practice is the way you play. I thought we executed everything we did in practice the day before. We walked through every single thing, scenario they were doing defeensively and all the things they did consistently,” Guinea head coach, Corey Frazier, said of the game.
Right from the start of the game, Guinea playedwith the right energy defensively and pushed the pace up the court, claiming a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
“I’m about pushing the ball up. The only way you are going tohave confidencin basketball in shooting is I have to have as much confidence as youre, so if you are open you have to shoot it ,” Frazier said.
For Cameroon, it was a taste of their own medicine according to coach Alfred Aboya as they were beateen at every battle, including the physical battle.
“We got a taste of what we have been doing to other teams. We see it tastes bad, we don’t like that.
“But there are games like that; a team comes and makes their first shots and gains confidence, and it's hard to stop the train when it’s already launched. We tried our best, we fought, but we were in too deep a hole to recover,” Aboya said.
Despite the loss, Cameroon maintain top spot in Group E.
