Hagåtña (Guam) - Guam have once again asserted their dominance in the sub‑region, completing a perfect campaign to win gold at the FIBA Women’s Micronesian Cup 2026 and secure qualification to the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
With a blend of experienced leaders and rising talent, Guam delivered consistent, high‑quality basketball across the tournament, reinforcing their status as the benchmark program in Micronesia. They defeated Palau 142 - 37 in their final tournament outing to once again secure the regional title.
Their performance was defined by disciplined defence, selfless ball movement, and a deep rotation capable of generating scoring from multiple positions. That team identity was echoed by the players themselves, with Joylyn Pangilinan reflecting on the final game.
Tonight’s game was great, our team played pretty well and selfless basketball. As a team, we all scored, we all had points on the board. We had our ups and downs, but I think we did okay.
“This whole weekend has been an eye‑opener for me,” Pangilinan said. “A lot of these players get to play high school and college ball, but for me I’m done with college, so I’m just focused on the national team now.”
The victory also marks Guam’s second consecutive FIBA Women's Micronesian Cup title, further cementing their position as the region’s standard‑bearer and extending a legacy that has shaped women’s basketball across Micronesia for more than a decade.
Alongside Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia completed a strong tournament of their own, finishing with silver and also securing qualification to Tahiti 2027.
FSM’s campaign highlighted the nation’s growing depth, improved structure, and the emergence of new contributors complementing their experienced core. Their silver‑medal finish ensures FSM will continue their upward trajectory on the Pacific Games stage next year.
For team Guam, preparations start now. We will focus on the Asian and Pacific Games, and that means staying in shape year-round, sticking together and having fun - Joylyn Pangilinan
With both Guam and FSM advancing, Micronesia will be well represented in Tahiti as the region continues to build toward the next FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Division B qualification cycle.
