BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Groupings and matchups for the 2025-26 FIBA West Asia Super League (FIBA WASL) season have been settled following the completion of the Sub-Zone Leagues’ draw on Thursday, September 18.
Held virtually, the proceedings were attended by representatives of the participating ball clubs, the results of which are as follows:
Similar to the 2024-25 competitions, a total of 14 teams are set to see action in the upcoming season. Eight ball clubs will comprise the WASL-Gulf League, while six will make up the WASL-West Asia League.
The WASL-Gulf League is keeping the old format. The teams are split into two groups, with the top seeds after the home-and-away, round-robin Group Phase earning outright tickets to the Semi-Finals.
The no. 2 and 3 teams, meanwhile, will play in the Qualification to Semi-Finals.
The WASL-West Asia League, on the other hand, has undergone significant changes.
The six will play in a home-and-away, round-robin Group Phase. The top four teams will advance to the Semi-Finals, where the no. 1 team will face the no. 4 team and the no. 2 and 3 sides comprising the other bracket.
Still, the Final Phase of both the Sub -Zone Leagues will feature best-of-3, home-and-away series, with the home court advantage to be given to the team finishing with the best result in the Group Phase.
The 2025-26 season has been confirmed to tip off on October 13, marking the start of what should become an even more interesting race to the Final 8 as the qualification process underwent a significant change.
From six in past editions, seven teams from WASL will now make it to the league's culminating event, with the teams finishing fourth to vie for the right to join the podium finishers of their respective Sub-Zone Leagues.
Seven WASL teams plus the SABA champions will make up the 2025-26 Final 8.
