MIES (Switzerland) - Group E games entertained everybody to start the third Tuesday of action in the Regular Season of the Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL.
Group H followed right after with convincing victories by Dreamland Gran Canaria in Serbia and Le Mans Sarthe Basket in France, breaking a five-game losing streak in the competition.
KK Spartak Office Shoes 83-93 Dreamland Gran Canaria
Last week, KK Spartak Office Shoes became the first Serbian team to begin their first BCL campaign on a 2-0 record. But they weren't the only surprising newcomers in Group H.
In fact, Gran Canaria just became only the fourth team from Spain capable of winning their first three games in the League, joining Tenerife (2016), Fuenlabrada (2018), and Unicaja (2021).
They managed to do so by winning 93-83 on the road in Serbia, moving on top of Group H alone at 3-0.
Thus far, only Jaka Lakovic's team and Galatasaray MCT Technic are on a perfect three-game winning streak in Season X.
Gran Canaria took their first lead with 6:32 minutes in the first quarter, and never looked back since then. They took care of every opposing turnover (15), scoring 27 points off KK Spartak's lost possessions.
The Spaniards were inspired by Braian Angola's 24-point performance over 7-of-10 FG and 9-of-11 FT.
Nicolas Brussino (19 points), Isaiah Wong (14 points over 7-of-8 from the two-point range), and Andrew Albicy (6 points and 7 assists) were also among the protagonists for Gran Canaria.
"We knew Spartak is a great team, they didn't lose until today, so we were mentally ready. We played a solid game. We have to see where we can get better, but in the end we are happy for the win here in Subotica, which is a tough place to play and a tough team to win," Gran Canaria head coach Jaka Lakovic commented after the game.
Despite the defeat, Olivier Hanlan had an astonishing losing effort of 28 points (7-of-7 from two, 8-of-10 at the stripe) and 5 assists for the Serbians.
Shevon Thompson added 15 points and 5 rebounds in KK Spartak's home loss.
Le Mans Sarthe Basket 89-69 SL Benfica
Le Mans had a rough time in their last five games played in the Basketball Champions League, losing each and every one of them. However, things change if we speak about record track at home.
Before hosting SL Benfica on Tuesday, they had won five of their last six home games in the competition.
By escaping in the second half and getting the 89-69 victory over the Portuguese side, Le Mans broke their five-game losing streak while also confirming their winning status behind friendly doors.
It was an absolute collective effort by Guillaume Vizade's team, which had five players in double-digits to come out victorious.
Among them, Trevor Hudgins (13 points and 6 assists), Lucas Dufeal (10 points and 7 rebounds), and TaShawn Thomas (12 points and 4 rebounds) left their mark on the stat sheet.
Benfica suffered their eighth consecutive defeat away from home in the BCL despite Geno Crandall's double-double of 19 points and 11 assists. Aaron Broussard had 19 points as well, but they stayed 0-3 in Group H.
