KAYSERI (2010 FIBA World Championship) – After a day off in Group A of the 2010 FIBA World Championship, Serbia will have their roster complete as they face a hot Australia to open day 4 of competition.
Serbia was benefited from the return of guard Milos Teodosic as they dominated Jordan 112-69, which was the best offensive output for them so far. Now they will get Nenad Kristic who will held Kosta Perovic inside and he is also an offensive threat.
The Serbians will test the Australian defense, which is one of the best in the tournament. Their balance offensively has been consistent and now with their top two players, they will be a force in the last two days of the Preliminary Round.
Australia finally found consistency on the offensive side with a balanced attack. Now their perimeter shooters are in sync and are dangerous on both sides. After holding Germany to just 43 points, now they will face the best offensive team in the tournament but they have the skills and intensity to make the Serbians think a little bit more about their offensive game plan.
Germany will have to bounce back after a 43 point performance against an Angolan team that has seen some great moments in this tournament and now they believe they belong in the next round. This game will be of life and death for both of them as they share a 1-2 record and are tied in the fourth and final qualifying spot that will earn a berth into the eighth final round.
The Germans have seen their ups and downs, especially in the clutch moments by dropping a game against Argentina, edging Serbia by just one point and then losing to Australia 78-43. The offense by Jan Jagla has opened up opportunities for Steffen Hamann and Demond Greene. Also the bench players have seen some good action but ball handling problems and shot selection in key moments make them a vulnerable team.
Angola can run up and down the court and take advantage of the German turnovers to make this an interesting contest. The shooting by Carlos Morais and offensive potential of Joaquim Gomes will be key in this contest.
Argentina, the only undefeated team in the group with a 3-0 record, will face Jordan who is the only team without a win in Kayseri.
The Argentineans are rotating their players to give rest to their starters, who are veterans and give it all on the court. The bench play by guard Luis Cequeira has given some valuable time off for Pablo Prigioni but Paolo Quinteros, Federico Kammerichs and the rest of the bench need to step up their game in order to go full strength into the eight final round. The Argentinean coach, who visited with FIBATV.Com today, could continue resting Fabricio Oberto so they could be complete in the next round.
Jordan has shown flashes of brilliance but they haven’t been consistent enough in order to compete for 40 minutes. Zaid Abbas has played brilliantly leading the team in scoring and rebounding but his teammates haven’t picked up their play in order to get a win.
