The British Olympic Association have announced that Team GB's preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics will take place in Macau.
The team will have exclusive access to the region's training facilities, some of which were only constructed in 2005 for the East Asian Games, for up to three weeks before the event.
"Today's announcement builds on the BOA's experience of hosting preparation camps," said Simon Clegg, chief executive of the BOA. "It embraces both the athletes' needs, providing top-quality training facilities in a safe and secure environment, and enhances the BOA's aspiration to create a Team GB ethos."
The majority of British athletes will be based in Macau, which is in the same time zone as Beijing and offers similar climate conditions, but there are a number of sports which will train in alternative venues.
The canoeing team will be based in Beijing along with the rowing team, while swimming will be based in Osaka. Cycling (Newport), sailing (Qingdao), diving (Xian), equestrian (Hong Kong), modern pentathlon (Font Romeu) and triathlon (Jeju Island) will also be based elsewhere.
