Pops Mensah-Bonsu believes starring for Great Britain's basketball side this summer rekindled his NBA dream.
The 6ft 9in forward was one of Britain's top performers as they qualified for the 2011 European Championship.
Chris Finch saw his side secure their place in Lithuania after topping their qualifying group.
Mensah-Bonsu, 27, notched his best-ever scores for GB, hitting 32 points and 21 rebounds in a 94-85 overtime win over Bosnia-Herzegovina which sealed top spot.
And his rejuvenation earned the free agent a contract with NBA outfit New Orleans Hornets after his spell with CSKA Moscow ended.
"I think the form I hit this summer helped me regain the confidence I needed to go back to the NBA," admitted London-born Mensah-Bonsu, who has 28 caps.
"I always enjoy playing for GB, I only get to see some of those guys once a year and it is always great when we do get together. "The move to New Orleans only came about because I was available at the right time and the situation was perfect for both parties involved so I jumped at the opportunity."
Mensah-Bonsu failed to establish himself previously in the NBA during short-lived spells with the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and the Houston Rockets.
But now his new side have started the season respectably with an 14-9 record in the Western Conference.
He added: "The season is going well so far and I am just trying to earn a few more consistent minutes in the regular rotation."
Mensah-Bonsu's other priority is ensuring GB make an impact in the 2012 Olympics in his home city.
Finch's side have yet to get FIBA approval to compete at the Games despite being hosts. But Mensah-Bonsu believes a good showing in Lithuania will seal their place.
He added: "We are at the point where we have realised our potential, it is just bringing it to fruition."
