ATHENS (A1 Ethniki) - Olympiacos remain the only unbeaten team in Greece after an 88-58 demolition of Iraklis at the weekend but the player who made most of the headlines plays for Ikaros.
Deon Thompson, who captured the 2009 NCAA title with the University of North Carolina, had 21 points and 15 rebounds as Ikaros upset Aris Thessaloniki, 64-62.
The outfit improved to 6-7 with the victory.
Thompson went into the game averaging just under 14 points and 10 rebounds per game.
He says he is very happy in Greece.
"I am with a great team, in a great city like Athens and in a very strong league," he said.
"I learn a lot from my teammates and the coach (Aris Likogiannis), who along with the remaining staff do an excellent job.
"I think that I can become even better as there are things I can improve my game."
Thompson says the club's fans have a lot to be excited about.
"We have shown that we can beat any opponent, except of course Olympiacos and Panathinaikos," he said.
"The first round had a perfect end with a great victory against Aris and the record of six wins is very good.
"Our goal is to stay up and we are close to achieving it."
Aris, meanwhile, have bolstered their frontline with the signing of veteran power forward/center John Thomas.
Sharon Drucker’s team will open their Eurocup Last 16 campaign on Tuesday night at home against Ukrainians Budivelnik.
