BERGEHEIM - Hans-Dieter Krebs, one of the most prominent figures in German sports journalism, has passed away in Bergeheim, Germany. He was 84 years old.

Krebs reported on sports and in particular covered basketball for more than five decades. He was very close to FIBA in its early days, when the international federation had its headquarters in Munich. He wrote the biographies of FIBA's first Secretary General, William Jones, and that of current FIBA Secretary General Emeritus, Borislav Stankovic.

Krebs' profound knowledge of the history of basketball on a national and international level made him a man very much in demand as a lecturer at universities and journalistic schools.

"Mr Krebs was a friend of FIBA and a chronicler of our history," said FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann. "He has stayed with me as the author of several books on the history of FIBA. As a young Secretary General of FIBA, I was very curious to know more about my predecessors."

Hans Dieter Krebs will be sorely missed and FIBA's thoughts and prayers are with his family.
