FRANKFURT (Beko BBL) - The Deutsche Bank Skyliners player AJ Moye is in hospital recovering from a stroke.
The 28-year-old guard had a clash of heads with a teammate in training and the next day at practice was unwell, so club doctors took him to the emergency room in Frankfurt.
His condition got worse and he was eventually diagnosed with a stroke.
Gordon Herbert, the Frankfurt coach, spoke about the situation after his team played and beat Tubingen on Saturday, 79-76.
“It’s day by day,” Herbert said.
“He’s in a very good hospital, in the best situation he can be in Frankfurt.”
Herbert and his players somehow managed to focus on Saturday’s game and win.
“It’s been a difficult week for us,” Herbert said.
“We preferred not to play but I thought the guys came together as a team and gave a very good effort.
“Life is more important than this game. I wish we hadn’t had to play this game.
“I wish it would have been changed to January, and I still wish it had been changed to January even though we won.
“I’m a little bit lost for words.”
Tubingen coach Igor Peravoic said: “I must say the game was big game for both teams. The most important thing is that AJ is getting better.
“He’s recovering his health. Life is most important.”
Roger Powell didn’t play for Skyliners after suffering a knee injury in the team’s EuroChallenge defeat to Maccabi Haifa.
Herbert revealed that he had been a leading voice in the locker room to help the players through the tough situation with Moye.
“Roger Powell helped out a lot with his spirit, his religious beliefs, helped players through this,” Herbert said.
“Roger Powell didn’t play a minute but I think he had a huge bearing on this game.”
