HAMBURG (U17 World Championship for Men) – Following the draw for the first U17 World Championship for Men, held on 10th February 2010, the tournament schedule has now been finalised.
The 12 participating countries were drawn into two groups of six teams for the first round, during which each will play the five others in their respective groups.
The competition will be played in the Sporthalle Hamburg between 2nd and 11th July 2010.
The opening encounter of the Championship will oppose Lithuania and China in group A at 9:00am CET. Hosts Germany get their campaign underway later that day when they take on Canada (7:00pm CET), while the game to watch on day 1 could well be USA vs Argentina (1:30pm CET), who will clash in a repeat of the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 final.
Other games to keep an eye on include a battle between neighbours Germany and Poland (7:00pm CET) on 3rd July, the coming together of title contenders Spain and Canada (10:00am CET) on 5th July, followed by a face-off between continental champions China and USA (4:45pm CET).
On 7th July Spain take on Australia (9:15pm CET) in the last fixture of the first round.
The top four teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, held on 9th July, while the semi-finals will be played on 10th July.
On Sunday 11th July at 4:00pm CET, the two winning semi-finalists will come head to head to determine the winner of the inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship for Men.
