COLOGNE (Beko BBL) - The 17th game day in the BEKO BBL saw some very exciting games, incredible individual performances, an upset and some low scoring games as well.
BG Goettingen continued to be very hot, winning their sixth game of their last seven 67-46 against the Mitteldeutscher BC in the Lokhalle. BG Goettingen was led by Trent Meacham with 17 points. Dwayne Anderson continues to impress registering 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Mitteldeutscher BC was led by Ronald Ross with 16 points who continues to show his scoring qualities.
The most exciting game of the weekend was the 100-93 OT win of Ratiopharm Ulm in Bremerhaven. The hoosts started the fourth quarter with a 16-1 run to lead 78-62, but Ratiopharm Ulm never gave up and took over a 81-80 lead with a 20-2 run. Torell Martin gave Bremerhaven the 85-82 lead with 18 seconds to play, but Rocky Trice sent the game into OT. Ratiopharm Ulm started the OT period with a 6-0 run to help seal the deal.
Ratiopharm Ulm was led by Robin Benzing with 30 points. Big man John Bryant produced 21 points and 18 rebounds and German national player Per Guenther 20 points and 6 rebounds. The Eisbaeren Bremerhaven were led by Torrell Martin with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Sean Denison added 20 points. Maksym Shtein chipped in with 13 points and Andrew Drevo with 12 points.
The Gloria Giants continued to have misfortune losing their sixth game in a row 77-65 to EWE Baskets Oldenburg. EWE Baskets Oldenburg were led by Aron Baynes with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Oliver Stevic produced 12 points and Lou Campbell and Eddie Gill added 10 points each. The Gloria Giants Duesseldorf were led by Laimonas Kisielius with 18 points. Ex Paderborn Baskets guard Steve Wright contributed 11 points. Patrick Pope and Ransford Brempong chipped in with 10 points each.
Two teams that were looking to end their long losing streaks were the LTi Giessen 46ers and Phoenix Hagen,who faced each other in Giessen. Phoenix Hagen was able to break their seven game losing streak while the LTi Giessen 46ers lost their 10th game in a row.
Phoenix Hagen was led by David Bell with 25 points. Jacob Burtschi added 24 points. Zgyimantas Jonusas produced 14 points. The LTi Giessen 46ers were led by American Zachery Peacock with 27 points. Elvir Ovcina had a monster game with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists. American Ryan Brooks added 11 points.
The New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig remained very hot winning their seventh game of their last nine games stopping the Telekom Baskets Bonn five game winning streak 75-73. Braunschweig was fuelled by a 22-10 run in their comeback win in the third quarter.

The Brose Baskets Bamberg remained unbeaten, winning on the road against BBC Bayreuth 74-57. The Brose Baskets Bamberg were led by Brian Roberts with 15 points. Casey Jacobson added 12 points. BBC Bayreuth was led by three point specialist Pete Campbell with 14. Danny Gibson contributed 12 points and Phillip Heyden 10 points.
The upset of the day was 8 times BEKO BBL champion Alba Berlin losing on the road against Walter Tigers Tuebingen 74-70. The Berliners lost their fourth game of their last six games as Tuebingen ended their three game losing streak.
Walter Tigers Tuebingen was led by Bane Ratkovica with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. Ken Wiliams added 14 points, Dane Watts chipped in with 11 points and Anatoly Kashirov with 10. Alba Berlin was led by Marko Marinovic with 19 points. Immanuel Mcelroy added 10.
