BAMBERG (BBL) - Title contenders Brose Baskets Bamberg added a crucial piece to their jigsaw on Wednesday by signing sharp-shooter Casey Jacobsen until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old former Stanford shooting guard comes into the 2005 German champions’ line-up in place of DeJuan Collins, who was released after being suspended for disciplinary reasons.

"Our primary goal was to find a player who had certain playing skills and a fighting spirit, and one that we could expect to positively fit into our structure regardless of position," Bamberg coach Dirk Bauermann said.

A former Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Hornets player, Jacobsen averaged 9.0 points and 1.6 rebounds on 44.5% from three-point range in helping Spanish side Tau Vitoria reach the 2006 Euroleague Final Four.

Jacobsen is expected to share time at shooting guard with Robert Garrett.

The signing still leaves Bamberg without a replacement for power forward K'Zell Wesson, who is out for at least six weeks with a back injury.

Jacobsen will be the 17th player used by Bamberg this term, leaving just one spot available for the remainder of the campaign - which Bauermann would like to be a back-up for playmaker Steffen Hamann as he reckons Vincent Yarbrough, Ivan Pavic and Darren Fenn are good enough to fill in at power forward before Wesson returns.

Bamberg will be boosted next month by the return of talented youngster Tim Ohlbrecht after injury.

Bauermann's team are currently ranked 12th in the BBL with a 7-6 record - with five fewer games played than league leaders EnBW Ludwigsburg. They face neighbours sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg on Wednesday.
