BEIJING (Olympics) – This summer is the last for Patrick Femerling with Germany, the national team captain has announced.
The 33-year-old will play in the Olympics for the first time and then call it a day.
“The Olympic participation now is the absolute peak and for me the perfect time to quit,” Femerling announced.
“With Chris Kaman, Jan Jagla and Tim Ohlbrecht, strong enough players are available at my position.”
One of the highlights for Femerling, who made his senior team debut 12 years ago, came in 2002 when he helped his country capture a bronze medal at the FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis.
Germany are in Group B at the Olympics with Angola, Greece, Spain, China and the United States.
