FRANKFURT (2010 BEKO BBL Top 4) – Brose Baskets Bamberg know they’ll finish the campaign in Germany with at least one trophy after beating BG Göttingen and hosts Deutsche Bank Skyliners to win the 2010 BEKO BBL Top 4.
Bamberg have Australia international Mark Worthington in their lineup but it was the hot hand of Croatian Predrag Suput that shot them to victory in the title game over Frankfurt.
The 32-year-old had 26 points in the final, which Bamberg won 76-75.
Frankfurt, with a sell-out crowd of 5,002 looking on, trailed by 14 points heading into the last quarter and came up just short of an amazing comeback.
"The atmosphere in the finale was great,” Suput said.
“I was very focused on the cup and had all my strength for this game.
“Today was just my day."
Winning coach Chris Fleming was a very happy man after the final.
"Thanks to the fans who have supported us, the weekend was great for all us,” he said.
“The atmosphere was an important factor. We had a good start and Predrag pushed us . I am very happy."
Bamberg had beaten BG Göttingen in the Semi-Finals while Frankfurt had edged Eisbären Bremerhaven, 61-59.
Frankfurt made headlines with their terrific comeback and then created more when they announced Murat Didin would no longer coach the team.
The club has brought back veteran coach Gordon Herbert for a second spell.
Herbert led the club to the German title in 2004.
