The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 debuts the full power of GeniusIQ and AI-driven basketball.

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - Followers of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 are witnessing a technological breakthrough with the first-ever FIBA event with full activation of GeniusIQ – an AI platform showcasing how data and automation will shape the future of basketball.

Earlier this year, FIBA and Genius Sports announced the rollout of GeniusIQ at the U19 World Cup in Lausanne, marking a significant step forward in their shared commitment to innovation in basketball.

The games in Lausanne are serving as a platform where fans, coaches, scouts and players are able to experience new ways of interacting with the sport, ranging from real-time data overlays in broadcasts to performance analytics and fitness insights.

GeniusIQ utilizes the Dragon system, which is a fully automated optical tracking solution. The cutting-edge setup of 12 strategically placed iPhones captures every movement on the main court in Lausanne. This AI-driven system enables real-time in-game optical tracking, powering augmented broadcasts with live data overlays such as player speed, shot charts, and momentum swings.

Additionally, coaches at the U19 World Cup will get a hands-on look at the Performance Studio platform, which turns millions of data points into useful insights through data, video, and visualizations for player and team analysis. They'll also see a fitness tracking tool that monitors player load, conditioning, and effort zones.

Starting with the final Group Phase on July 1 for games at the Lausanne Arena, fans can enjoy a new way to watch the games with interactive visuals and enhanced storytelling. Even from home, they can see live data like never before during each live game on FIBA's YouTube channel.

This event represents more than just competition – it marks a milestone in the evolution of the game. Technological innovation is now woven into every aspect of basketball, from the basics like scorekeeping, game and shot clocks, to advanced digital graphics, real-time data overlays, and heat maps that enhance the viewing experience and deepen fan engagement.

By combining elite youth basketball with world-class technology, FIBA and Genius Sports aim to set a new global standard for how the sport is played, analyzed, and enjoyed - but also to clearly demonstrate FIBA's commitment to delivering on its Sustainability and Innovation strategic objective.
