RIGA (EuroBasket Women) - Getting to the Olympics was one battle the Great Britain women won when FIBA's Central Board voted in March to allow them to take part in the London Games as the host nation.

Now becoming a competitive team with a chance to win big international games is the next challenge.

Tom Maher's team were reminded of the long and tough road ahead on Thursday when they crashed to a 74-50 defeat in Riga to Latvia.

Both teams are getting ready for the EuroBasket Women, which tips off in Poland on June 18.

After falling behind early, the Brits had very little chance of mounting a comeback because of Latvia's tough-as-nails defense.

Great Britain forward Ros Mason believes the team can shake off the woeful performance.

"Today we struggled defensively to get our rotations in the correct order," she said.

"Defensive transition wasn't as we expected it to be.

"Tomorrow (Friday) we need to bounce back.

"We know what we did wrong today, we need to focus on a few key elements defensively.

"If we can correct those, then everything else should come."

On Friday, Britain take on Slovakia in a friendly.

Latvia's last warm-up game is against Slovakia on Saturday.
