TORONTO (2010 FIBA World Championship) – Pops Mensah-Bonsu has returned to the Toronto Raptors after being waived by the Houston Rockets.
Mensah-Bonsu, one of Great Britain’s better known players, played 19 games for the Raptors last season and led them in rebounding in three of those contests.
He had a chance to sign a new deal with the NBA’s lone Canadian club in the summer but joined Houston instead, agreeing to a move with the Rockets on September 3.
The late decision meant that he missed all of Great Britain’s warm-up games for the EuroBasket and prevented him from meeting up with the team until shortly before their departure for Poland where they lost to Slovenia, Spain and Serbia in Group C.
Mensah-Bonsu will now attempt to solidify his place in a talented, injury-riddled Raptors squad.
“I’m glad to be back,” he said.
“We had (roster) space,” Toronto coach Jay Triano said.
"He gives us rebounding and energy."
Mensah-Bonsu will play at the 2010 FIBA World Championship if Great Britain receive one of the four wild cards to be handed out by basketball’s world governing body for the 24-team event.
