Luka Garza will represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers

Bosnia and Herzegovina get a boost ahead of July's FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - Boston Celtics big man Luka Garza plans to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in the next window of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers.

He will join the Bosnian team, who are currently 2-2 in a tough Group C, where they play host Türkiye on Thursday, July 2, followed by a trip to play Serbia on Monday, July 6.

His potential inclusion will bolster the squad by adding a versatile player who can shoot the ball, pose a threat on the offensive boards for numerous second-chance opportunities and bolster the defensive end.

"I am extremely pleased to announce that we can count on Luka Garza for the summer window of the Qualifiers," Bosnia and Herzegovina head coach Dario Gjergja said.

"He and his father, Frank, expressed in their talks a great desire for Luka to play for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I wish Luka a warm welcome. I am happy that we will have the opportunity to work together."

"After talking with coach, I can say that I am honored to have the opportunity to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina this summer," Garza added.

"This means so much to me and my family. Can't wait to be out there with the rest of the guys and get to work!"

Garza last played for the national team at the 2023 Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where he averaged 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds.

He posted two double-doubles, most notably a 24-point and 11-rebound effort in an 86-77 triumph against Israel en route to the Final, where they narrowly lost out 76-72 to hosts Poland.

Garza completed his first season with the Celtics by delivering valuable depth off the bench. In 69 regular-season appearances, he averaged 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in just 16.2 minutes per game.
