    Game officials clinic in Malaysia setting the right foundation

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - A Game Officials workshop was held in Malaysia as part of the FIBA Regional Office - Asia’s commitment to improving all aspects of the game.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - A Game Officials workshop was held in Malaysia as part of the FIBA Regional Office - Asia’s commitment to improving the various aspects of the game.

    A total of 26 participants National Referees and Commissioners, both male and female, took part in the three-day workshop (from 21-23 October) in Kuala Lumpur where they were able to get a better understanding and improve their level of officiating.

    "On behalf of Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA), we would like to welcome the Regional Office for making this Referees Clinic a success in Malaysia," said Tan Kee Hian, the MABA Secretary General.

    "We look forward to have more collaboration between MABA and FIBA in the aim to improve the standard of the games of basketball."

    During the course of the clinic, all participants went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential. On-court practical sessions were also organized to help the participants understand the tasks at hand to help them become FIBA licensed referees and understand how to tackle challenges during the games. 

    "Thank you to the Regional Office for imparting the latest basketball rules and expertise to the referees in Malaysia, which is very important to us. If we want to professionalize basketball, then we have to get the foundation right," said Chan Owe Shiong, Chief of the MABA Referee Committee.
