DONGGUAN (China) - Fujitsu ran roughshod over Busan BNK Sum, 101-54, to finish as the no. 1 team in Group B of the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia (WBL Asia) 2025, Friday at the Dongguan Sports Center.
The Red Wave actually gave up the game's first basket but that proved to be the only time they'd trail as the WJBL champions surged to a 21-9 lead, never to look back as they broke away for good in the second frame.
Eventually, they'd net their second win in as many games to stay unbeaten heading into the knockout crossover Semi-Finals on Saturday, where they will be taking on whoever finishes second in Group A.
As it stands, hosts Dongguan New Century are at 1-0 in the other pool, with the Ulaanbaatar Amazons toting a 1-1 record after nailing a historic first win against Cathay Life (0-1) in the tilt's resumption Thursday night.
Dongguan and Cathay Life will square off later tonight at 19:30 local time.
Six players finished in twin digits in the rout, with Aki Fujimoto leading the way with a game-high 19 points and 7 rebounds. She already had 13 in the first half, which the team finished with a commanding 51-28 lead.
Saki Hayashi made 17 points. Yuki Miyazawa and Oku Ibuki provided 13 points apiece and combined for 10 rebounds, while Mio Maezawa and Maho Hayashi chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
BNK Sum, on the other hand, were led by Sonia Kim's 13 points. Lee Sohee was her lone backup with 11 points as they couldn't sustain their winning ways after escaping Al Ula Thursday in their tournament debut.
The WKBL champions finished at no. 2 in Group B with a 1-1 record but are still bound for the Semi-Finals.
