France - Rodrigue Beaubois: Mark Cuban “Is Great”

Interviewed by the French radio RMC, Rodriguer Beaubois talked about Tony Parker, Mark Cuban et the French team.

RMC: You have been compared to Tony Parker for a long time. Do you have the opportunity to see him in the United States?
Rodrigue Beaubois: He sent me a message after my game against Golden State. I never thought that a player like him would think of me. TP did incredible things: he has won several NBA titles, he was the first European player to be named MVP of the Finals. He is Tony Parker! I had the opportunity to meet him a few times, and he is really a good guy. Like Mike (Pietrus). One like the other always gave me advice when they could.

RMC: Is it difficult to play with the status of subsitute? One day you can play and score 40 points, and then be on the floor for a few minutes…
Rodrigue Beaubois: It is clear that it is not easy. It’s difficult to have to be ready all the time without knowing if you will play. But that’s how it is, so I have no choice. I have to stay focused every game. Once, the coach brought me in 27 seconds before the game ended… That’s the drawback of having been drafted by a very good team with players who have already proven a lot. It’s not easy every day, but I’m also growing enormously all day with them.

RMC: How do you approach the playoffs which arrive?
Rodrigue Beaubois: I’m waiting them with impatience. This is my first playoffs, I do not know what to expect, but people made me realize that it is a whole new level, much more intense. It will be very interesting to live. I do not know how many games I’ll play, but I must be ready to bring the maximum to the team.

RMC: How do you rate your first season in the NBA?
Rodrigue Beaubois: It is not over, but I think I have shown some interesting things. The coaches have tell me it, my teammates too. It’s positive, but I still have a lot of work and a lot of things to learn. We will see how far I has come at the end of the season.

RMC: A word about your boss, Mark Cuban. He is someone who is out of tune in the world of the NBA … How is he everyday?
Rodrigue Beaubois: Before I met him, I saw him in videos and pictures, and I thought: “But F*** … this guy is crazy!” Now, I can say that he is really great. He is the first Mavericks fan. His license plate is also MFFL for “Mavericks Fan For Life.” He’s just a passion for the basketball and he is always at 200%. It’s why he screams at the referees and is still standing. He follows almost all the games, he takes the plane with us for our trips. He’s at full speed! At the same time, he put us in the best conditions to play. He is a good person.

RMC: A final word on the French team. Do you think about the next World Championships in Turkey?
Rodrigue Beaubois: Honestly, I do not think about it yet. In the very near future, it is clear that the French team will be one of my big goals. On this summer, I think I still have time to think about it. For now, I’m really focused on the end of the season with Dallas.
